Still Need Ramadan Learning/Activities for Kids This Ramadan? Check Out This Book!

If you are still wondering what you will do with the kids this Ramadan (or even for yourself), here's another suggestion: The "Fasting From Alif to Yaa" book, compiled by Umm Mujaahid Khadijah Bint Lacina al-Amreekeeyyah, who runs the Making the Most of Ramadhaan Class (which I highly recommend).
In it there are Ramadan/Islamic topics for each letter of the Arabic alphabet. For each letter, after a great "points of benefit" section (great for adult study), there is a "Family Time" activity such as learning about specific prophets. She's got the stories of several prophets in there and you could literally just sit down and read through the stories with your kids each day. After each story, there is a section of "Hands on Activities) that the kids can do (make a poster, book or craft). Many a day the past few Ramadans, this book was a "life saver" as I didn't have anything particular planned for the kids so I just picked up the book and read the stories. Some days even include recipes, it's really neat.

If you are interested, you can check it out/purchase the Kindle book here (affiliate link):

The book is also available in print form.

Lessons on Fasting for Young Children from IslamTheBasics

If you have small children and are looking for resources to teach them about Ramadan and fasting, you won't want to miss IslamTheBasics' set of 4 ebooks/lessons. I read them today (and yesterday) with my kids. They are so adorable, the pictures have no faces, and they cover a lot of concepts related to fasting during Ramadan.

You can access them via their "Children Under Six Lessons" page (but they are great for kids  slightly older than six as well). Scroll down all the way to the end of the page to find the lessons under "Fasting."

We really enjoyed the lessons.

We had a lot of fun with the curriculum and used it a few times afterward.   You can download the original materials below. A lot of the links to the supplemental sources are not longer working, but you should still be able to follow along with the lessons and I'm working to make sure that all the supplemental material I made can be found here.  If Allah wills, I hope to soon remake the lessons.

Prepare for Ramadan! - Sha'baan Daily Learning Plan

Ok, it's a little late for this this year (2011). We usually start reviewing for Ramadan in Sha'baan, but this year was kind of disorganized, so I decided to work up a plan so that next year, in sha Allah, we could approach our review in a more organized manner:

I hope by the time next year rolls around, in sha Allah to have worked up resources to go along with this outline.
